leaves #1 is an assemblage of an original photographs of leaves, plywood,wire mesh, and various other fibrous materials. This piece underwent a transformation when I moved to New York City. The reflection of light off buildings, puddles and windows inspired me to remove some of the heaviness of the wood, by leafing it. I wanted to capture the fleeting quality of reflection, along with the natural deterioration depicted in the leaf photograph.
